Four Seasons Whistler
Whistler, Canada
From one summit to the other, a gondola links Whistler to Blackcomb above the Fitzsimmons valley, without a single tower along most of its span. In summer, one swims in Alta Lake facing pistes still streaked with snow. On Cougar Mountain, above Green Lake, a grove of giant red cedars was spared by the loggers; their age remains uncertain, since the heart of these trees rots first, taking the early rings with it. The name comes from the hoary marmot, which whistles from the scree when an eagle passes over.
