Upper House Chengdu
Chengdu, China
Chengdu washed its brocade in the river, whose water was said to brighten the colours; the river has been called the Jin ever since, the brocade river. The last ruler of the Later Shu had hibiscus planted all along the ramparts, and the city gained a second name from it, Rongcheng. In People's Park, tea is drunk from lidded bowls on bamboo chairs, and the hot water is topped up until evening. At Jinsha, a cut sheet of gold was unearthed on which four birds circle a sun; China has made it the emblem of its heritage.
