Bvlgari Hotel Milan
Milan, Italy
Lombardy works, and it does so between lakes. Milan holds its Duomo of pink marble and its courtyards behind closed doors, its Navigli, where an old covered wash house still lines the water. Bergamo keeps its upper town on its hill, girdled by Venetian walls; Mantua, surrounded by lakes, preserves the frescoes of the Gonzaga. Further north, the vines of the Valtellina climb in terraces towards the Alps, those of Franciacorta run down to Lake Iseo. Fog covers the plain in winter, light washes it in spring, and the risotto is taken with saffron.
