Alila Ventana Big Sur

Nestled among the redwoods of a 160-hectare estate along the California coast, this retreat originally created by film producer Lawrence Spector, was shaped by the wild landscape. It’s a place with a wholly original spirit, where tarot cards await guests for a singular experience. The 54 guest rooms (along with 15 tents in the canyon below for a real escape) blend into their surroundings with colour palettes of ochre and green, grey and brown, all warmed by a fireplace. Walls, ceilings, and exposed beams crafted from local wood create symbiotic sanctuaries that balance intimacy with immersion. The restaurants follow the same theme, harmonising Californian vitality with pastoral tranquility to showcase local produce. In keeping with this ethos, the spa offers treatments that combine ancient Eastern techniques under the protective shade of the trees.
