From the summit of the Bürgenstock, 450 metres above Lake Lucerne, it seems at its gentlest, where the understated charms of mountain life can unfold. Take a dip in the outdoor infinity pool, ‘fly’ (on a funicular, but we can dream a little) from one to another of the four hotels that make up the complex, slip into the 10,000-square-metre spa, play tennis under the watchful eye of Martina Hingis, the hotel’s ambassador, or journey from dish to dish with flavours drawing on Asian, Swiss and hearty, meat-based cuisine.
