The V&A Waterfront is right on the doorstep, with boats drifting in and out of the marina beneath the hotel’s brick façade. Inside, Cape Town’s art scene is never far away, as Galia Gluckman’s Sunrise and Sunset and Zarah Cassim’s Star Lights are among the works scattered through the interiors and suites. The latter have an easy, residential feel, with natural materials and textures that keep the city and its surroundings close. In the kitchen, Wesli Jacobs looks to the Cape’s produce and traditions, giving them a more contemporary edge with some evenings that centre on a wine-pairing dinner, withduring which a local sommelier selects the bottles to match each course. At Bascule Bar, order a Scotch whisky and take it outside, with the marina below and the night sky overhead. The Salt Room offers a quieter ritual, with sea air, salt and the wooden pontoons just beyond.
