Cape Grace, A Fairmont Managed Hotel
Cape Town, South Africa
Sandstone on granite: that is what Table Mountain is made of, and the silver tree, which grows almost nowhere but around the city, flashes its downy leaves on the slopes. At Kirstenbosch, at its foot, the proteas and heaths of the fynbos climb gently towards the rock face. In the Bo-Kaap, on the slopes of Signal Hill, the flat-roofed houses are each painted a colour of their own. In summer, when the south-easter blows, a cloud spills over the plateau and pours down the rock face, then dissolves before it reaches the roofs. The mountain has laid the tablecloth.
