Somewhere amongst the forests and gardens of deepest Scotland lies a 19th-century baronial castle. Converted into a hotel at the turn of the century, it has retained its character thanks to a sensitive renovation: period furniture, fabrics and works of art weave a strong link between the past, the present and the future. Scotland’s largest suite is ideal for a special stay, with four bedrooms, a sauna, a treatment room and a private kitchen where guests can discover the region’s bountiful produce. Eco-sustainability is a key priority for the owner, entrepreneur Paul Szkiler, who has built lasting relationships with the local producers, whose ingredients inspire the chef. But this is by no means a barrier to celebrating the good life; falconry, archery, water sports, and gin and whisky tastings are all also available.
