Inspired by this setting, the Timeo – which has retained its intimate character with just 40 rooms and suites nestled within a 2.5-hectare park – encourages guests to perfect the art of far niente. Or nearly: the swimming pool beckons, whilst the restaurant, with all its Sicilian lyricism, is inviting. Raise a glass in the bar in memory of Oscar Wilde and Maupassant, regular guests back when the hotel was still a modest five-room establishment.
