Facing Nijo Castle, built in 1603, the hotel welcomes guests through the Kajii-miya Gate, which dates back three centuries. At its heart lies a landscaped garden with trees that belonged 250 years ago to the family that gave the property its name. Rocks and stone lanterns surround a central reflecting pool that mirrors the unfolding seasons, highlighting a cycle fundamental to Japanese culture. The guest rooms maintain this tone, featuring neutral hues and understated furnishings punctuated by washi lamps, textiles, and ceramics crafted by master artisans from Kyoto. Downstairs in the spa, the onsen complements the respite offered by an authentic tea ceremony. Overlooking the lush courtyard, Toki adapts its menu to the seasonality of ingredients, preserving the essential harmony of the place.
