Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf

Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf

Dar Al Masyaf means “summer house” in Arabic, which is perhaps all you need to know. Tucked among gardens and lagoons, its suites, villas and residences have the air of private holiday homes, made for days spent between the shade and the water. Inside, the layout feels more domestic than hotel-like, with majlis sitting rooms, private courtyards and, in many cases, a pool just beyond the door. Some villas open directly onto the waterways of the Madinat, so that the abra becomes almost an extension of the house. Mosaic fountains, wind towers and softly curved stucco add an unmistakably Arabian note, reinterpreting the old Moorish vocabulary in a lighter, more contemporary way. After a day in Dubai, there is something rather appealing about stepping straight onto an abra and being carried back to your own jetty. And when the city feels a little too far away, the spa offers another kind of escape, with hammams and sound healing to while away the afternoon.
