Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab carries the unmistakable character of a yacht at sea, from its sweeping silhouette to the gentle rhythm of the water below. Its sculptural form rises around the Burj Al Arab, as though the two had been designed to sail together. Inside, the mood is altogether more intimate. The vast chandelier in the lobby gives way to contemporary majlis arranged as little islands for conversation, while the suites are shaped by softened curves, weathered tones, organic woods and floor-to-ceiling glass. Everywhere, there is the sense of being aboard a ship, only one with rather more room to roam. The restaurants take their cues from ports far and wide, with ricotta ravioli at Rialto Bar, suzuki with stracciatella at Kinugawa, and Stephanie Haywood’s poached king crab claw with mussel cream at Orizonta.
