Le Meurice

From the rue de Rivoli, the Tuileries seem to enter the Meurice: they reappear in the rooms and suites, in the form of hand-painted Gournay wallpapers. The house has recently turned to new forms of craftsmanship, from rye straw to painted decors, without losing the spirit of its historic salons. It was in the Salon Pompadour that Picasso married Olga Khokhlova in 1918, with Jean Cocteau as witness. Dalí, who made the Meurice his Parisian address for three decades, lives on through his name in a suite and in the restaurant, placed beneath a canvas dedicated to him. At the Dalí, trompe-l'œil fruits rest upon a silver tree. Guests stop there for tea before going to read or run in the Tuileries gardens.
