Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich

The Mandarin Oriental Savoy, situated on Paradeplatz, occupies the premises of Zurich’s first grand hotel, opened in 1838 by Johannes Baur, an Austrian baker. The 1838 rooftop bar takes its name from the same year. The old town and the lakeside promenade are within walking distance, and an electric boat cruise passes beneath the towers of the Grossmünster and the Fraumünster. Tristan Auer oversaw the renovation of the interiors, drawing inspiration from the colours found on site, to create a calming palette based on the greys of Zurich stone, the blues and greens of the lake, the mountains and the sky, all rendered on handmade silk wallpaper.
