Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel, Florence

Villa San Michele occupies a 15th-century Franciscan monastery on the hills of Fiesole, with a façade attributed to Michelangelo. In the terraced gardens, the air remains cool even when Florence heats up below. Guests can take a morning stroll up to Monte Ceceri, the hill where Leonardo da Vinci tested his flying machine in 1506 and on the way back down, the loggia with its eight tables serves lunch prepared by Alessandro Cozzolino, with the Duomo in the distance. The hotel reopened in spring 2026, following 18 months of restoration work that has brought frescoes, Tuscan marble and antique tapestries back to life.
