The frescoes of Sant Climent de Taüll have gone to Barcelona; in the apse, deep in the Boí valley, projectors redraw Christ in Majesty on the bare stone. Further down, Montserrat raises its needles of conglomerate, pebbles held in a natural cement, above a monastery where a children's choir sings. In the Priorat, the vines grow on llicorella, a dark slate flecked with mica that holds the day's heat. In Valls, where the castells were born, human towers are raised in the square, and a helmeted child climbs to the top before coming straight down the other side.
