Athens hotels collection

The paths that climb towards the Acropolis and Philopappos Hill were paved by Dimitris Pikionis with marble and roof tiles taken from the city's demolished houses, laid by hand on site. Athens often works this way, by reuse. At Anafiotika, beneath the rock, islanders from Anafi built limewashed houses that seem to have strayed far from their island. Lycabettus, opposite, carries its white chapel above concrete blocks with deep balconies. In the evening the Parthenon turns pink, and the whole city looks up.
