Hotel de la Ville

Rome, Italy

Hotel de la Ville

An 18th-century silhouette towering over Piazza di Spagna, the Hotel de la Ville exudes the subtle presence of a building that has always been there. Following three years of renovations overseen by Olga Polizzi, it is finally welcoming back its loyal guests; and few hotels inspire this kind of fidelity. Velvet and wood panelling take centre stage, alongside marble busts and chinoiserie, infused with a sense of gentle indulgence. This vision continues upstairs to the rooms and suites, blending delicate textures with modern finishes to offer a sense of tranquillity and comfort; they are also amongst the largest in the capital. Whilst the Cielo Bar lives up to its name admirably, offering us the whole of the Eternal City at a single glance, dinner – a rousing score conducted by chef Fulvio Pierangelini – leaves us in no doubt that Rome, too, is a feast.
