Set on a 2,400-hectare working estate in one of the country’s wine regions, this is a place with a distinctly rural character, shaped by the land around it. Stone and solid timber give the interiors their weight, softened by deep upholstered seating and fresh flowers. The twenty-four keys are scattered between cliffs, rolling hills and the ocean, each one conceived as a quiet country retreat in pale woods and gentle colours. At the heart of the house, the loggia is where everyone naturally gathers, with the landscape spread out beyond it. Below, the pool is positioned so that the eye seems to carry on towards the sea. The estate’s eighteen-hole golf course lies beyond the forest and a wildlife sanctuary, opening onto the rocky ridges at the edge of the property. At the spa, a mānuka honey treatment draws on one of the region’s most recognisable natural ingredients; the restaurant follows the same philosophy, with produce from the kitchen garden shaping a seasonal menu that stays close to the land.
