The Dolder Grand

The Dolder Grand

The Dolderbahn leaves Zurich and climbs through the Adlisberg, while the city reappears between pine and spruce. At the top, the old 1899 Kurhaus keeps its Belle Époque flair, extended by Norman Foster's architecture. In the lobby, Dalí's The Weary Traveler greets arrivals, while at the Restaurant, five guests sit near the stone counter and the glass cube where the bottles rest, providing an intimate way to follow the service. At Chalet Krug, the fondue mixes Gruyère, Vacherin Fribourgeois, Mimolette and spices. After a swim in the outdoor pool, or a short walk among the roe deer, you head slowly back down by funicular. The lake gradually returns between the foliage and the rooftops, seen from the suites; some modernist, others traditional.
