Though Soumiya has gradutated from the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture de Paris as a full-fledged architect and even returned to Morocco where she worked for several years as an architect, urban planner and designer, her calling became something she never expected, but something that immediately made sense: textile construction. She became fascinated with handmade weaving and today she has introduced into the craft of weaving an array of exotic materials. For her work, she received numerous awards and was even decorated by His Majesty King Mohamed VI.
The forgotten skills of Marrakech with the architect-artist Soumiya Jalal
For this immersion program, your visit will start at Soumiya Jalal’s studio with a presentation of her creations followed by a trip to the Comptoir des Mines Art Exhibition, before ending at the Macaal, the city’s most remarkable museum known for its collection of African art, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy a lunch at the heart of the beautiful garden.
