I used the movie, The Third Man, as a door-opener into a time frame of history, which is virtually unknown in Vienna: the Second World War
There was a time when Gerhard Strassgschwandtner roamed around Vienna with his turtleneck and blazer, taking tourists to discover the eclectic culture of the city…and then one day, someone mentioned the British film “The Third Man”, featuring Orson Welles and which was filmed in the Austrian capital. The name kept popping up until one day, Gerhard found three posters of the film in New York, and that was the start of his descent down the rabbit hole. Today, Gerhard is the director of the “The Third Man” museum and is someone we can’t wait for our clients to meet!
In this exclusive Lartisien immersion, you will be taking a tour of The Third Man tour with the founder, Gerhard, himself, exploring the various locations where the iconic British war film was filmed, and learning about the production of the film and more. The tour ends at the Museum itself, where you will be regaled with an important collection of objects and documents related to the movie and to pre-and post-war Vienna that Gerhard has acquired over a few decades.
